Bram Stadhouders & Jan Bang

Orgelpark, Amsterdam

Jan steps in for Arve Henriksen for a duo with Dutch guitarist performing the Utopa Baroque organ through his midi guitar set up. The Utopa Baroque Organ combines an uncompromised historically inspired sound concept (referring to the organs Zacharias Hildebrandt built in Johann Sebastian Bach's region and time) with digital technology (which provides access to the Hildebrandt sound concept in formerly unthinkable ways).

Love Your Latency: Ivar Grydeland / Jan Bang / Michael Duch / Torben Snekkestad / Tone Åse etc

Kraftverk, Studenthuset Bare, Skippergata, Kristiansand

Love your Latency

This is the second performance from CreaTeME’s project Love your Latency, and it takes place simultaneously in Kristiansand and Oslo. Musicians located in Trondheim, the Austrian city of Graz, Oslo and Kristiansand are brought together in same online virtual studio and presents the musical outcome in hybrid onsite and online parallel performances.

As a result of different room acoustics, and the online travel-time for audio and video between the participating musicians, we are facing a peculiar situation. Audiences at Kraftverk in Kristiansand and at The Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, as well as the performers, are challenged by juggling multiple here-and-nows, prompting us to ponder questions about togetherness and the perception of time in different temporalities and spaces.

On stage in Kristiansand: Jan Bang – live sampling   Torben Snekkestad (reeds)

On stage in Oslo Sarah-Jane Summers – strings Ivar Grydeland – pedal steel guitar and electronics   In Trondheim: Tone Åse – voice and electronics

In Graz: Michael F. Duch – double bass Christopher A. Williams – double bass

Eivind Aarset | Jan Bang "Last Two Inches of Sky"

De Doelen, Rotterdam

An immersive musical experience by renowned jazzmusicians "Last Two Inches of Sky", released by Punkt Editions on 23 September, is an ambitious and engaging mixture of sonic painting and art-pop; a new high point in Eivind Aarset and Jan Bang’s collective output.

Aarset and Bang have collaborated since the early 1990s in constellations with, among others, Nils Petter Molvær, Bugge Wesseltoft, Sly & Robbie and Jon Hassell. "Snow Catches on her Eyelashes" (2020) was their first recording as a duo, an album that was widely praised, inspiring John Eyles of All About Jazz to write: "Aarset, Bang and company go from strength to strength, as does the Norwegian scene. Onward and upward."

Listening with your eyes closed, this is exactly the escape that Eivind Aarset and Jan Bang’s powerful new album offers you. Close to the sun, perhaps, but grounded by the beat.

Nils Petter Molvær´s Khmer

Enjoy Jazz, Mannheim

Nils Petter Molvær Khmer live 25th anniversary concert Two anniversaries, one event. On the occasion of the 25th edition of the Enjoy Jazz Festival, one of the most important European music albums will be performed live. "Khmer" by Nils Petter Molvær, released 25 years ago, has changed the musical landscape beyond the borders of jazz. Molvaer's nu jazz combines electronic sounds with rhythmic patterns from trip-hop or drum'n'bass and places melodies in this brilliantly woven mesh, sometimes pulsating, sometimes velvety, that are more reminiscent of masterpieces from pop music. A mixture that has long had its place in music history and continues to have an effect today. Even in the motherland of jazz one could not escape this great artistic throw. The magazine "L.A. Weekly" chose "Khmer" at the time as the "Jazz Record of the Year 1998". With six top Norwegian musicians, including some from the original line-up, Nils Petter Molvær finally brings his legendary album back to the stage at the Pfalzbau.

Alexandra Lehmler / Vincent Courtois / Jan Bang

Enjoy Jazz, Mannheim

Alexandra Lehmler invites Jan Bang & Vincent Courtois For a good decade, Alexandra Lehmler has been a regular presence at Enjoy Jazz with a wide variety of projects. In 2014, she was awarded the Landesjazzpreis Baden-Württemberg and has subsequently distinguished herself by always seeking out exciting, challenging constellations, including with Herbert Joos, Franck Tortiller or Patrice Héral. Now another highlight follows with the Norwegian Jan Bang, the master of live sampling and live remixing. Lehmler got to know the director of the Punkt Festival on the sidelines of one of their concerts and learned to appreciate his approach to music. In Vincent Courtois, on the other hand, it is the versatility in which the robust and the melodic combine in a fascinating way that inspires enthusiasm. Saxophone(s), cello, live sampling, electronics - Alexandra Lehmler once again presents her art in a new exciting context, right out of the contemporary sound laboratory of improvisation.

PUNKT

A highly anticipated visit from a festival where the remix can be as interesting as the live performance itself

Program: Wunderkammer: Til minne om Nils Christian Moe-Repstad Punkt Live Remix

Eivind Aarset | Jan Bang – Last Two Inches of Sky – releasekonsert Punkt Live Remix

Do You Know Me Now? boks-sett.

Den kritikerroste platen Snow Catches on her Eyelashes fra 2020 var deres første utgivelse som duo, et album som inspirerte John Eyles fra All About Jazz til å skrive: «Aarset, Bang and company go from strength to strength, as does the Norwegian scene. Onward and upward.».

Last Two Inches of Sky utvider dette soniske universet ytterligere.

Hamid Drake – trommer, Susana Santos Silva – trompet, Eivind Aarset – gitar, elektronikk, Audun Erlien – bass, Camille Norment – glassharmonica, Jan Bang – live sampling, Erik Honoré – synth, live sampling

Dai Fujikura: composition, sounds Jan Bang: sampler, sounds Eivind Aarset: guitar, electronics Franz Hautzinger: trumpet, electronics

The Bow Maker began as a collaborative project between Japanese composer Dai Fujikura and Norwegian sound artist Jan Bang. Fujikura’s minimalist approach to composition and Bang’s electronic sound processing give rise to a timeless, subtle and immersive tonal landscape. Together with Norwegian guitarist Eivind Aarset and Austrian trumpeter Franz Hautzinger, the duo creates an auditory experience that transports the audience into a multidimensional sound space. The boundaries between acoustic and electronic music blur into a contemplative sensory experience.

Simin Tander Jan Bang

Face to Face Veranstaltung

Warum?

Jan Bang - Reading the Air

Banlieues Bleues, La Dynamo, Paris, Pantin

Jan Bang : voix, piano, Anneli Drecker : voix, Eivind Aarset : guitare, machines, Audun Erlien : basse, Anders Engen : batterie.

WITH THESE HANDS

Jan Bang / Ensemble Modern / Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and Jacopo Godani

With these hands expresses the overall concept: every evening, a new dialogue will take place between music and dance. The musicians from Ensemble Modern and the dancers from the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company will give each other impulses, developing sounds and movements that will be recorded, processed, altered and reintroduced into the creative flow by Norwegian jazz musician and live electronics artist Jan Bang. The result will be a slowly changing stream of movement and music in which sound and dance become inextricably intertwined.

Ensemble Modern is one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music. It brings together approximately 20 soloists whose diverse origins provide the cultural background for the group’s creative efforts.

Jan Bang is a Norwegian musician and record producer. He is a musical innovator and bridge-builder who has repeatedly succeeded in uniting progressive thought with appealing elements of popular culture.
